Ryan Murphy posted his first career hat trick Saturday night, to lead Bowling Green to a 4-1 victory over Lake Superior State in CCHA action. With the weekend sweep, BGSU moved ahead of the Lakers into the 10th playoff spot in the CCHA with 14 points compared to Lake Superior’s 12.
The Falcons hit the scoreboard right off the bat, with Murphy netting his first goal of the night just 20 seconds into the contest.
Freshman D’Arcy McConvey scored what would prove to be the game winning goal at 9:55 of the first.
With each team a skater down, Murphy hit the back of the net for his second of the match to put the Falcons up 3-0. The unassisted goal was Murphy’s 18th of the campaign.
Bart Redden put the Lakers on the scoreboard at 9:41 of the middle frame when he flipped the puck past Falcon goalie Tyler Masters. Redden’s second of the season was unassisted.
Ryan Murphy completed the hat trick with an unassisted, empty-net goal at 19:22 of the third. Murphy’s team leading 19th goal of the season is a career best.
Tyler Masters stopped 33 of the 34 shots he faced, earning the victory for the Falcons. His record currently stands at 10-12-3. Laker goalie Scott Murray made 29 saves on 33 BG shots.
With the win Saturday, BG pushes its record to 10-14-4 overall, with a 5-11-4 mark in the CCHA. Lake Superior falls to 10-19-0, with a league record of 6-16-0.
