Tuesday night at Brockport, the RIT offense rolled over the Brockport Golden Eagles, outshooting them 71-37 and outscoring them 14-2.
RIT controlled play territorially through most of the first period, opening the scoring at the 8:49 mark as Matt Moore danced around Brockport defender Casey Firko at the Golden Eagle blue line, skated towards the net, and wristed the puck in.
The Tigers struck again at 13:27. Jared Conlon and Mike Bournazakis broke in to the Brockport zone 2-on-1, and Conlon passed across the slot to Bournazakis, who finished off the tally.
Mike Tarantino then tapped in a goal at 13:44 to put RIT up 3-0, but Brockport got on the board just 34 seconds later when Brandon Marineau broke in to the RIT zone with only one defender between him and the net. Marineau deked around the Tiger skater and beat RIT netminder Rob Boope low to make the score 3-1.
RIT tallied again at 16:08 to finish the period up 4-1. Rob Vessio redirected a shot from the faceoff circle for the score.
RIT continued the scoring onslaught early in the second period with a goal at the 1:01 mark. Mike Tarantino flipped in a rebound from right on the doorstep.
Brandon Luckino notched a lucky goal for RIT just 25 seconds later, sending a wrist shot from the circle that hit Golden Eagle netminder Steve Tippett’s stick, popped straight up into the air, landed behind the netminder and bounced in to the net.
Tiger Matt Moore scored his second goal of the night at the 11:56 mark of the second period off a slapshot from the high slot. RIT enjoyed a 7-1 lead after two periods.
Brockport got an early power play in the third period and capitalized; Don Stiner chipped the puck from in close off a rebound for the goal.
But the Tiger offense kept rolling after the Brockport score, tallying seven more goals before the clock mercifully reached zero. Peter Bournazakis scored three goals in the period for a hat trick, while Mike Bournazakis also scored his third of the game for a chapeau of his own.
