Tim Olsen tied the game with 1:23 remaining in the third period, lifting Augsburg to a 4-4 overtime tie with St. Norbert in a non-conference game Saturday night at Augsburg Ice Arena.
The Auggies led 2-0 after one period, but had to rally from a 4-3 deficit to claim the tie and move to 5-7-1 overall. St. Norbert moves to 9-4-2 overall.
Shawn Carney scored his first two goals of the season in the first period to give the Auggies the early lead. But St. Norbert outscored the Auggies 3-1 in the second frame, including two goals from Chris Bodnar, to tie the game at 3 entering the third period.
Faron Duthie put the puck in the net for the Green Knights at the 15:34 mark to give SNC a 4-3 lead, but three minutes later, Olsen tied the game for the Auggies.
St. Norbert outshot Augsburg 3-0 in overtime and claimed a 33-28 shots-on-goal advantage in the game. Both teams also had two shots hit the post each in the game.
St. Norbert’s Maris Ziedins and Augsburg’s Andy Ness had the other goals in the game.
Ryan McIntosh came up with 29 saves to notch the tie in goal for the Auggies, while Chancy Colquhoun made 24 saves for the Green Knights. Colquhoun was lifted for substitute Ryan Gill midway through the first period after the Auggies scored two goals, but was re-inserted in goal two minutes later.
Augsburg finished 3-3-1 in games against Northern Collegiate Hockey Association foes this season, while St. Norbert finished 5-1-2 against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes. It was the final “interlocking” nonconference game for both teams.
