Adrian Wong scored the first and last goals of the game Friday, lifting Lake Forest to a 4-3 overtime victory over Augsburg in a non-conference game at Augsburg Ice Arena.
Wong’s goal, on assists from Dan Holmes and Frankie DeMasi at the 2:13 mark of overtime, gave the Foresters the victory and a 7-4-2 overall record on the season. Augsburg, which dropped its second overtime loss at home this season, fell to 5-7-0 overall.
Lake Forest broke a 2-2 tie midway through the third period when Andrew Jay put a shot past Auggie goalie Ryan McIntosh. But the Auggies tied the game with 2:46 remaining in regulation time when Andy Ness lit the lamp on assists from Jake Wegscheider and Mike Jackson.
After Wong scored the game-opening goal just 1:04 into play, Augsburg took a 2-1 lead with two goals in a 42-second span of the final minute of the first period. Jaro Cesky and Joe Pontrelli provided the goals for the Auggies, Pontrelli’s his first collegiate goal. Matt Bruni scored for Lake Forest just 41 seconds into the second period to tie the game at 2.
Lake Forest outshot Augsburg by a 44-38 margin. Mason Black made 35 saves to score the win for Lake Forest, while McIntosh made 40 saves in a losing effort.
