Cornell defeated Ohio State 5-3 in a non-conference game on Sunday at Lynah Rink.
Ohio State freshman Erin O’Grady scored the first goal of her college career and Lindsay Ogren added her first of the season.
Cornell left wing Erica Olson hit hard and fast for the Big Red, knocking in her third and fourth goals of the season in the first three minutes of play. Olson slipped the puck past OSU’s April Stojak for an unassisted goal just 25 seconds into the first period. At 3:25, Olson struck again, this time from Lindsay Murao and Brooke Bestwick to give the Big Red a quick 2-0 lead.
Ogren put the Buckeyes on the board at 7:26 with her first of the season. Corinne Rosen skated the puck past the blue line on a breakaway and took a shot, which deflected off CU goalie Sanya Sandahl. Ogren was ready for the rebound and fired the puck to the upper right corner of the net.
At 9:22 in the second stanza, Sarah Olivier scored her second of the season from Olson and Bestwick. The Big Red took a 4-1 lead into the second intermission when Olson capped off her hat trick at 11:23 and would finish the night with four points.
Cornell earned a two-man advantage early in the third period when Katie Frohreich was whistled for cross-checking and Melissa Pirie received a five-minute major for hitting from behind and was ejected. Murao scored a power-play goal at 9:06 and put the Big Red ahead, 5-1.
Kelli Halcisak jumpstarted the Buckeye offense with her fourth of the season, a 4-on-4 goal, from Rosen at 13:43.
