Matt Libby and Adam Lee each netted two goals to lead No. 8 Providence (8-3-3, 4-2-1 HE) to a win over Merrimack (7-8-1, 3-6-0 HE).
Devin Rask assisted on four goals, Libby added two assists and Lee one as Providence avenged Friday night’s loss to split the weekend home-and-home series.
Jon DiSalvatore started things off 4:02 into the contest and Jonathan Goodwin scored at 6:27 to give the Friars a 2-0 lead.
Regan Kelly then took advantage of a power play by beating Warrior goaltender Joe Exter. Exter gave up three goals in the opening 13 minutes of the game after allowing only two goals in the previous 180 minutes of play.
Nick Parillo got Merrimack on the board at the 17:03 mark of the first period to close it to 3-1.
Lee then scored with 26 seconds left in the first period to make it 4-1 after one period of play.
The Friars scored three times in the second period. Libby scored twice and Lee added a power play goal to make it 7-1 after two periods of play.
Ron Mongeau and Ryan Kiley scored in the third period to make it a 7-3 final score.
