Brian Rice scored his second goal of the game with 5:38 remaining to give Potsdam a 4-3 win over Norwich in Game 1 of the PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout on Friday.
The goal developed as Mike McCabe made a great pass to Rice on the doorstep. Rice one-timed the shot into the back of the net.
Norwich opened the scoring 6:28 into the game as Dominick Dawes ripped home a slap shot from the left point. Potsdam answered just 41 seconds later as Brian Rice put home his own rebound to tie the game at 1.
The Cadets took a 2-1 lead midway through the second period with their second power-play goal of the game. Keith Maurice took a shot from the left wing that deflected off Marshall Lee before trickling across the line for the goal.
Potsdam tied the game with 18 seconds left in the period as Jeff Milroy intercepted a pass and skated in for the shorthanded goal.
Potsdam took a 3-2 lead with 12 minutes left in the third period when McCabe scored a power-play goal after three shots in front of the Norwich net.
Norwich answered with its own power-play goal 3:51 later as Matt Moran redirected a shot from just outside the crease area to tie the game at three.
Ryan Venturelli made 23 saves in goal for Potsdam, while Nate Eusko made 17 saves for Norwich.
