Saum’s Hat Trick Leads Air Force Over Augsburg

Freshman Shane Saum tallied his first collegiate hat trick to lead Air Force to a 7-1 win over Division III Augsburg and a sweep of the series.

Saum put the Falcons on the board first with a power play goal at 7:23 but Jaro Cesky tied the game for the Auggies just 30 seconds later.

Saum’s second goal came with 5:22 remaining int he first period as Brian Reaney sent a centering pass from the right corner that Saum punched in.

In the second period Derek Olson scored on a two-on-one. Then Scott Bradley scored on the power play to make it 4-1 and soon after Andy Berg’s power play goal made it 5-1.

With 15 seconds left in the second period Kyle Fransdal stole the puck in the neutral zone and went in uncontested for the shorthanded breakaway goal.

Saum collected his hat trick goal in the third period with 1:22 left in the game. He won a faceoff and walked in to put the puck past the right post for the 7-1 win.

Air Force (6-3-1) has a current three game streak heading into a two game series at Wayne State next weekend.
