In a WCHA showdown, Nate DiCasmirro and Mark Hartigan led the way on offense as St. Cloud State University defeated Colorado College by a tally of 6-3 Friday night.
After a slow start, the Huskies posted the game’s first goal when DiCasmirro scored at 18:01 of the first with an assist from Keith Anderson.
SCSU jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second period with a tally by Brandon Sampair, assisted by DiCasmirro and Tyler Arnason on the power play at 2:19. Hartigan added his fourth goal of the season at 4:11 with assists from DiCasmirro and Sampair on the power play.
CC responded with a pair of goals by Mark Cullen later in the second, but Derek Eastman scored the game-winner for SCSU at 4:34 of the third. The goal was Eastman’s first goal this season.
Motzko stretched the lead to 5-2 with an unassisted goal at 7:08 of the third. CC’s Noah Clarke scored at 17:32 of the third on the power play before Hartigan iced the game with an empty-netter at 18:47.
Husky netminder Scott Meyer was outstanding between the pipes with 32 saves, including 12 in the first period when the Huskies were outshot 12-5.
The victory moves SCSU’s record to 5-1-1, 2-1-0 in the WCHA, while CC falls to 6-1-0, 6-1-0 in the WCHA. The Huskies and Tigers play again Saturday at 8:05 p.m. CST.
