The line of Kira Misikowetz, Janine Goulet and Carolyn Gordon combined for three goals and two assists to lift New Hampshire to a 4-3 ECAC victory against Boston College at the Whittemore Center on Sunday afternoon.
UNH improved to 4-1-0 overall and evened its conference mark at 1-1-0. BC lost its third straight to fall to 1-3-0, 0-3-0.
Misikowetz (goal, assist) broke a 3-3 tie with a tally at 14:46 of the third period. Senior co-captain Michelle Thornton pushed the puck to the top of the crease, where Misikowetz shoved the puck into the net. Freshman Kristen Thomas also earned an assist on the play.
UNH sophomore goaltender Jennifer Huggon recorded seven saves. BC’s Amy Colletta kept the Eagles close by stopping 26 shots. The ‘Cats, who held a 30-10 shot advantage and never trailed, opened the game scoring at 4:37 of the first frame when Goulet, with the help of Gordon, scored from the slot. Boston College tied the game six minutes later on a Missy Barsz power-play goal.
UNH’s Jaime VanMassenhove netted her first career goal at 16:23 of the first period to give the ‘Cats a 2-1 advantage through 20 minutes. Thomas and Nicole Stefanilo assisted on the goal.
The visitors tied the game on a Jen Buckley tally at 5:37 of the middle stanza. Goulet’s second goal of the game and team-high sixth of the year, which was set up by Misikowetz, gave the ‘Cats at 3-2 lead at 13:55.
The Wildcats entered the third period with a 3-2 advantage, but the Eagles tied the game on their third power-play goal of the game. Gen Richardson’s pass to the low slot was tipped by Jen Buckley to Kelly McManus in front of the net. McManus, a UNH transfer, potted her third goal of the season to tie it 3-3 at 7:24.
