Junior Anders Johnson and sophomore Kurt Kamienski each scored two goals and six other University of Connecticut players added single goals Friday night as the visiting Huskies posted a 10-3 win over Bentley College.
The Huskies took advantage of 13 Falcon penalties and scored three power-play goals, all in the third period.
The victory in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup leveled UConn’s overall record in league play at 1-1-1 while Bentley dropped to 0-2-1 in the conference. The win was the first triumph of the season for Connecticut, which is 1-4-1 overall. Bentley dropped to 0-4-1 on the season.
UConn took an early 2-0 in the first period on goals by Matt Herhal. After Bentley got one back on a Marcus Willy power-play goal early in the second period, Connecticut scored three consecutive goals to build its lead to 5-1. Ron D’Angelo got the first of that trio of goals and Kamienski added the next two.
In the third period, UConn pulled away with five more scores as Johnson tallied both of his goals and teammates Eric Goclowski and Scott Brown also netted goals for the winners.
For Bentley, freshman Mike Mulligan scored in the second, and Joe Lovell in the third.
Michael Goldkind chipped in with three assists for UConn while D’Angelo added a pair of assists to his one goal.
Artie Imbiano chalked up 25 saves in two and one-half periods of action in the net for UConn, while freshman Jason Carey had six saves while seeing his first varsity action of his college career.
