Kyle Allen’s first collegiate goal turned out to be the game-winner on Saturday as Canisius defeated Holy Cross 6-1 at the Amherst Pepsi Center.
Sean Weaver made 39 saves for Canisius (2-1-1). Holy Cross fell to 0-3.
Holy Cross opened the scoring at the 4:07 mark of the first period as Brandon Doria tipped a pass under Weaver to give the Crusaders the 1-0 advantage early. That would be the only shot past Weaver on the evening as the Ice Griffs scored six unanswered goals to seal the victory.
Junior Jarrett Zielinski scored the first Canisius goal 14:01 into the first period to tie the game at 1-1. Allen scored on a slap shot from 15 feet away that beat Crusader goalie Brad Holzwart on the right side. Junior Corey Lucas added another Canisius goal at the 18:11 mark to give the Ice Griffs a 3-1 lead after the first period.
Sophomore Marc Bouffard registered his first of two goals 13:21 into the second period and senior Todd Bisson scored his team-high fourth goal of the season at the 15:17 mark to give Canisius a comfortable 5-1 advantage after 40 minutes of action. Bouffard added a final goal in the last minute of play of the third period to clinch the victory for Canisius.
Holzwart made 15 saves before making way for Rick Massey in the third period. Massey made 10 saves for Holy Cross.
