Danielle Culgin capped a comeback from a two-goal deficit with a goal at 3:41 of overtime Saturday, leading Providence over Findlay, 3-2.
Findlay took an early advantage by recording two goals in the final two minutes of the first period. The Oilers got on the board first when sophomore forward Nikki Work scored on a pass from freshman forward Andrea Coto at 18:30. Less than a minute later, freshman forward Sherrie White netted a shorthanded goal at 19:07 to give Findlay a 2-0 lead.
Providence narrowed Findlay’s lead to 2-1 at 19:56 of the second period when junior forward Kim Mathias scored on passes from junior defenseman Angela Hill and senior forward Jessica Tabb. The Friars evened the game at 9:12 of the third period. Freshman forward Gayle Shalloo recorded her first career goal on the power play.
Culgin’s unassisted, overtime goal gave Providence its first victory of the season.
Crystal Nicholas stopped 21 shots for Providence. Findlay’s Erin Blair stopped 44 shots in the loss.
