Mercyhurst scored three times in 4:12 late in the third period and never looked back in defeating Holy Cross in the MAAC opener for both schools.
Mercyhurst had taken a 1-0 lead when Eric Ellis scored 4:28 into the game when the Lakers erupted with goals by Peter Rynshoven (15:44), Louis Goulet (19:14) and Mike Muldoon (19:56) in the first period.
The second period was scoreless and in the third the Crusaders got on the board with a goal by Pat Rismiller. The Lakers came back to get that goal back when Adam Tackenberry scored at 7:27.
The only power play goal of the game was scored by the Crusaders and Brandon Doria at 11:08 of the third, but Mercyhurst got that back with a P.J. Hiscock goal at 16:38.
Mercyhurst outshot Holy Cross, 40-26. Laker goalie Peter Aubry picked up his first win of the season making 24 saves, while Crusader netminder Derek Cunha stopped 34 Laker shots and fell to 0-2 on the season.
Mercyhurst (1-1-0, 1-0-0 MAAC) will host Bentley on Saturday evening while Holy Cross (0-2-0, 0-1-0 MAAC) will travel to Canisius.
