Shawn Mansoff scored two goals and added one assist to lead Quinnipiac to a 4-1 victory over Army in a MAAC contest before 884 at Northford Ice Pavilion.
The Braves broke open a 2-1 game with two third-period goals in a 2:28 span to improve to 4-0-1, 2-0-1 in the MAAC. Army falls to 0-3, 0-2.
Quinnipiac took a 1-0 lead just 41 seconds into the game as Mansoff raced down the right side, took a long pass from Brian Herbert and beat Army goaltender Scott Hamilton with a backhand for his third goal of the season.
In the second period, Quinnipiac had five power-play opportunities, but was successful on only one, which came 1:17 after Army had tied the score as K.C. Finnegan broke free at the red line and flicked a wrist shot past Quinnipiac goaltender Justin Eddy at 17:28.
However, Army’s Josh Morino was whistled for interference, and Neil Breen capitalized, weaving around the right circle and wristing a shot past Hamilton for the 2-1 lead. The goal was Breen’s third of the season.
After 13 minutes of scoreless play in the final period, Mansoff broke free after getting a nice feed from Herbert and scored his second of the night at 13:31. Todd Bennett then made it 4-1 with his first goal of the season at 15:59, scoring from just in front off an assist from Jed Holtzman.
Eddy made 18 saves in net for Quinnipiac, while Hamilton had 33 for Army.
The victory carried the Braves’ home win streak to seven games as Mansoff recorded his second multiple-point effort of the season, and 17th in 40 career games at Quinnipiac.
