With expansion on the horizon for next season, the ECAC West prepares for battle, with RIT and Elmira again expected to fight things out for the top spot. Meanwhile, Hobart, under new coach Mark Taylor, and second-year Manhattenville, look to make an impression.
ECAC West athletic directors have accepted the applications of both Utica College and Neumann College for admission into the league, at league meetings being held on Cape Cod this week.
Mark Taylor, a long-time Division I assistant at Mass.-Lowell and Cornell, has been named the new head coach at Division-III Hobart. Local police were summoned to the site of Saturday night’s game between Elmira and Wisconsin-Superior after a brawl broke out between Elmira players and non-playing members of the Superior squad. Bowling Green coach Buddy Powers announced Tuesday that Eric Hoffberg, former head coach at RIT, has accepted an assistant coaching position with the Falcon hockey program. Eric Hoffberg, the winningest coach in RIT history, resigned today to pursue a position at the Division I or professional level. Hoffberg was 188-82-22 in his ten-year career at RIT, including 47-7-7 the last two seasons. UMass-Dartmouth, RIT and Middlebury have been tabbed the preseason favorites by coaches in their ECAC leagues in polling released by the league office.
