According to a TSN report, the Dallas Stars will hire Denver head coach Jim Montgomery as their replacement for Ken Hitchcock.
TSN hockey insider Bob McKenzie reports an announcement is expected to be made later this week. TSN senior hockey reporter Frank Seravalli reported Tuesday that Montgomery was one of roughly 10 coaches interviewed by Dallas general manager Jim Nill for the vacant position.
Montgomery has spent the past five seasons coaching the Pioneers and led the team to a national title in 2017.
He recorded a 125-57-26 record since taking over the Pioneers in 2013, reaching the Frozen Four twice.
Montgomery, who has no NHL experience behind the bench, has been linked to NHL head coaching jobs the past two offseasons.
