According to the Portland (Me.) Press Herald, former Maine player Kyle Solomon has become the first hockey player to join a class-action lawsuit that claims the NCAA “has failed to do enough to address and prevent concussions.”
Solomon played for the Black Bears from 2008-2010, leaving the team during his sophomore season after a series of events that led to his apparent concussions.
Solomon has since retired from hockey, but has continued his academics at Maine, but according to the report, the effects of his concussions have led him to not being able to read for long stretches, he suffers from migraine headaches and often cannot sleep.
Maine spokeswoman Laura Reed told the Press Herald that the university could not comment due to health privacy laws.
