Ed Gosek has announced his retirement as head coach of the SUNY Oswego men’s hockey program.

“Serving as the head coach at Oswego has been the honor of a lifetime,” said Gosek via statement. “This program means so much to me, both as a former student-athlete and as a coach. I’m grateful for the players, staff, alumni, and campus community who have supported our teams over the years.”

During his time at the helm, Gosek led the Lakers to multiple D-III NCAA tournament appearances and conference championships. He led the program to its first NCAA D-III championship in 2007. Gosek’s teams also reached the D-III Frozen Four five years in a row from 2010 to 2014.

“Coach Gosek’s influence extends far beyond the ice,” said Oswego athletic director Wendy McManus. “He has shaped the identity of Laker hockey through his dedication to student-athlete success, his competitive drive, and his deep connection to this institution. His legacy will be felt for years to come.”

Gosek first made his mark as an Oswego player before returning to serve as an assistant coach and eventually head coach.

Plans to honor Gosek’s career and contributions will be announced at a later date.
