Weekend picks: Feb. 6

Not many ranked teams play each other this weekend in women’s Division III, but that doesn’t mean the action won’t be hot and heavy.

Getting into the home stretch, Candace and Matt do as they’ve done all season – pick the top games of the weekend.

Saturday, Feb. 7

No. 5 Adrian at No. 8 Wisconsin-Stevens Point
Candace: Adrian has looked very good of late, and I think that continues. Adrian 3-2
Matt: This looks to be a very intriguing matchup on paper. That said, I like Adrian here based on the sheer fact the Bulldogs have the Kelsey Kusch and Jade Walsh factors. Adrian 4-2

Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 7-8

No. 2 Plattsburgh at Cortland
Candace: Plattsburgh got crushed twice last weekend by Elmira, but I think they’ll get back on track here pretty convincingly. Plattsburgh 4-1, 5-1
Matt: It looks weird with that ‘2’ next to Plattsburgh’s name, doesn’t it? Hmmm … Ranked second or first, Plattsburgh is still a national powerhouse and surefire national championship contender and grabs four points here with two straight shutouts against Cortland. Plattsburgh 5-0, 4-0

Sunday, Feb. 8

No. 10 Lake Forest at No. 7 Wisconsin-River Falls
Candace: Lake Forest is an improving team, but I like home ice in this one. Wis.-River Falls 3-1
Matt: Lake Forest is a good team that just won’t go away. Same with River Falls. I’d like to pick a tie here, or even an upset, but I can’t. Wis.-River Falls 3-1
