Life and death? Well, perhaps matters aren’t quite that critical. However, with five SUNYAC playoff hopefuls stacked within two points of each other, the coming weekend may put a big crimp in the postseason hopes of at least a couple of these conference rivals. There should be few, if any, dull moments to be seen with the league’s cozy rinks.
Friday, Jan. 18
Buffalo State at Brockport
With four wins and a tie in their last five starts, the Bengals are among the hottest teams in the country, and are getting timely scoring from Nick Melligan, plus stingy netminding from Kevin Carr. The Golden Eagles can make things tough for opposing offenses, but are having dreadful puck luck in the attacking end. Buffalo State 4-1
Fredona at Geneseo
With just one SUNYAC loss to date, Genny has feasted on the teams below it. Fredonia would love to atone for the 8-1 whacking the Ice Knights handed it in November, but the feeling here is that it won’t. Geneseo 5-2
Saturday, Jan. 19
Potsdam at Morrisville
These are two standings points that the Bears can’t afford to let slip through their paws. Still, the last place Mustangs aren’t going to just hand them over, either. Morrisville 2-1
