It’s still just in the early stages, but according to a report in the Star Tribune, in late January 2014, the five Division I schools in Minnesota will play in a tournament at the Xcel Energy Center.
“We are very close to getting it done,” Minnesota AD Joel Maturi said in the story. “We have to work out the finances and make sure everybody agrees to what it is and move forward.”
Maturi said that the five Minnesota schools have all agreed to the general format, but nothing has been signed. Minnesota would probably be in the field every year with three of the other four teams participating on a rotating basis.
The tournament is being called the Minnesota Cup for now, added Maturi.
