Three of the four home teams advanced, though Clarkson needed overtime to get past a tough Mercyhurst squad. Ohio State proved the lone minor upset, blanking Boston College on the road. Ohio State will face Clarkson, and Colgate will face Wisconsin.
The first round of the NCAA tournament features intriguing matchups, including a rematch between Minnesota and Wisconsin one week after the Gophers defeated the Badgers in the final of the WCHA tournament. Candace and Nicole pick the four quarterfinals.
As freshmen at Colgate, the players only got seven wins. Every year since, they’ve set a new program record for wins, and this year, the seniors led a team that won their first regular season ECAC crown and advanced to their first-ever NCAA tournament.
