Earlier in the day, the Broncos got the terrible news that sophomore forward Wade Allison, the team’s leading scorer, will miss the rest of the season with a lower body injury. However, Western rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the third period to win, 3-2, in overtime. Richard Zehnal was the hero, scoring just 35 seconds into the extra session during four-on-four play. Zehnal was trailing the play into the zone, and Hugh McGing slid a pass to him at the top of the left faceoff circle. Zehnal skated down the slot and cut to his backhand, lifting it top corner past Alex Leclerc, who made 40 saves in the loss. Paul Stoykewych had tied it for Western at 14:52, just over two minutes after Troy Conzo had put Colorado College up 2-1. The Broncos held a 1-0 lead going into the third thanks to a goal by Scott Moldenhauer at 18:59 of the second on a power play, but Trevor Gooch tied it for CC at 2:15 of the third on a broken play with a spin-o-rama slap shot from the bottom of the right circle that beat Ben Blacker five hole. Blacker made 30 saves in the win, including 15 in the third period.
