Jeff Dams notched two goals and an assist to lead Holy Cross past Connecticut, 3-1, in a MAAC matchup at the UConn Ice Arena Saturday night.
The win gives Holy Cross (15-11-5, 12-7-5) a four-point advantage over Connecticut (11-14-7, 10-9-5) in the league standings, leaving the Huskies in sixth place.
Dams’ first goal came 2:26 into the game, but UConn retaliated 17 seconds later to even the score. Mike Boylan scored the Huskies’ lone goal on a pass from Evan Schwarz. To end the period, Dams’ capitalized on a five-minute major that was assessed to UConn’s Beau McLaughin, scoring the power-play tally and the eventual game-winner.
R.J. Irving scored at the 16:34 mark of the middle period, also during the power play. The teams played scoreless in the third, but UConn put on a late surge, outshooting the Crusaders, 13-6.
Recording the loss for the Huskies was Jason Carey, who made 22 saves. Derek Cunha warded off 30 Connecticut shots on goal.
