Sophomore Rob Martin found a wide-open Chris Duggan for a one-timer that became that game-winner at 14:39 of the third period, leading visiting Canisius to a 5-3 win over American International Friday evening.
The Griffins opened the scoring 15:58 in the first period as Marc Bouffard put home a Corey Lucas rebound. Trent Ulmer lit the lamp just two minutes into the second period to tie the contest. Three minutes later Martin scored his first goal of the night beating AIC goaltender Frank Novello.
AIC would not be denied, using the rebound method as Alex Walsh netted his first of the season when Bryan Worosz could not corral Ulmer’s initial shot on goal. Ulmer netted his second of the game after AIC was trailing 3-2 at 8:06 of the third period.
Canisius added an empty-net goal by Todd Houston to round out the scoring.
Worosz picked up the win stopping, 23 shots as the Griffins improve to 11-6-2 in the league and 12-13-2 overall. Novello finished with 53 saves as AIC dropped to 6-15-0 overall and 5-14-0 and in the MAAC.
