Ireland joins Bowdoin as assistant coach

Former Middlebury player and assistant coach Julia Ireland has been named an assistant coach for the Bowdoin women’s team. Ireland followed a playing career that included a 78-13-8 record by joining Bill Mandigo’s staff for the last two seasons. She replaces Holly Lorms on the Bowdoin staff under head coach Marissa O’Neil.

Ice Breaker headed to Notre Dame in 2014, Maine in 2015

College Hockey Inc. will stage the season-opening Ice Breaker Tournament at Notre Dame in 2014 and in Portland, Maine, in 2015. Former Miami goaltender Jon Whitacre was killed Thursday in a plane crash. He was 28. A small, single-engine plane Whitacre was flying with an instructor while working toward his pilot’s license crashed in a field in Louisiana. The instructor, Clarence Collins, also died in the crash.
