The NCHC announced its preseason all-conference team on Wednesday, with North Dakota junior goaltender Zane McIntyre garnering 25 votes as the only unanimous selection. Local media members from each NCHC school and select national media picked the team.
John Philo has been named the inaugural recipient of the NCHC’s Mark Rudolph Officiating Achievement Award for the 2013-14 season. According to Crain’s Chicago Business, the third-annual Hockey City Classic is slated for Soldier Field on Feb. 7, 2015. Former Miami goaltender Jon Whitacre was killed Thursday in a plane crash. He was 28. A small, single-engine plane Whitacre was flying with an instructor while working toward his pilot’s license crashed in a field in Louisiana. The instructor, Clarence Collins, also died in the crash.
