It took, perhaps, a month longer than expected, but Vermont’s Mike Gilligan finally became the 17th coach to reach 400 career wins on Friday, when the Catamounts defeated Brown. And Bemidji’s Bob Peters won game No. 700 at the school.

Cleary to Retire as Harvard AD

Bill Cleary, who coached Harvard to an NCAA National Championship in 1989, is retiring as its athletic director, effective June 30, 2001. Cleary was the men’s hockey coach for 19 seasons before stepping down after the 1990 campaign.
