The Terriers killed the two BC power plays and the second period closed with BU hanging onto the 1-0 lead. Thanks to BC’s late power plays, it held a 15-6 advantage in shots in the period and has a 22-17 edge through two. We’ll be back with game stats through forty minutes when they’re available.

BU killed the first penalty only to have Boyle stopped by an incredible left pad save by Curry

BC has held the puck in the zone but unable to beat Curry. :44 seconds remain on the two-man advantage.

Brian Boyle had a doorstep chance but was stopped by Curry. A minor to McCarthy for hitting from behind, though, will give BC a 1:21 5-on-3 advantage.

The Eagles will once again have the chance to even the game with the man advantage as BU’s Tom Morrow was whistled for holding with 3:26 remaining in the second and BU holding a slim, 1-0 lead.

BU has killed BC’s second power play of the night,  allowing just one weak deflection from Brian Boyle on net. Combined, the two clubs are 0-for-5 with the man advantage as 4:20 remains in the second.

After being the recipient of three penalties, Gerbe drew a penalty against BU’s John McCarthy at 12:46 for obstruction interference. BC is on the power play for the second time in the game, still trailing, 1-0.

BC again killed of the BU power play without allowing a shot on goal. BU’s best shot was a blast from the point that deflected in front and never reached Schneider. BU has had six minutes of power play in the game without a shot on goal.

At 9:10, Andrew Orpik again had a bid from in close but couldn’t beat Curry. After the puck was frozen, BU’s Brian McGuirk pushed Orpik into Curry forcing a major scrum in front of – and inside – the BU net. McGuirk and Orpik both went off, making it 4-on-4. Kenny Roche made a perfect pass that sent Jason Lawrence in alone for BU. Unfortunately for the Terriers, the puck bounced off Lawrence’s stick and Boomer Ewing’s follow-up shot went wide. BU hasn’t mustered much with the man advantage as BC’s aggression in the neutral zone forces multiple BU turnovers. As a whistles blows for a stoppage in play, just a second remains before Gerbe returns to the ice.

BU is back on the power play as Gerbe is once again in the box, this time for slashing at 3:44.

The teams are back at it for the second period of play. BC killed off the final seconds of the penalty to Gerbe and the teams are back to five-a-side.

The first period of the 55th Beanpot title game is in the books with BU leading BC, 1-0. The Terriers outshot the Eagles, 11-9, in a period that featured plenty of up-and-down, fast-paced hockey. BU will start the second period on the power play, as Gerbe serves the final 30 seconds of ihs tripping minor.

Nathan Gerbe was whistled for tripping in the offensive zone, much to the dismay of the BC faithful, most of whom felt it was a dive by the BU defenseman when shown on the Jumbotron. Nonetheless, BU will go on the power play for the first time tonight with 1:30 remaining in the first.

An almost annual occurance at the Beanpot is the battle of cheers and jeers when each teams fans are shown on the Jumbotron. The Terriers killed off the BC power play without allowing a shot. Seconds later, Andrew Orpik walked out of the right corner and nearly beat Curry, his shot going just wide of the left post.

The Boston University forecheck has made it difficult for the Eagles to work their breakout from the defensive zone. Both teams are getting their offensive chances. With just 8:32 gone, each club has put six shots on net. Schneider was just forced to make a point-blank save on Brian ‘Boomer’ Ewing after yet another BC turnover in the defensive zone gave the Terriers a grade ‘A’ opportunity.
