BRACKETOLOGY: Taking one last shot at NCAA tournament seedings ahead of conference title games this weekend

Here we are with the final Bracketology prior to Saturday night’s championship games where the final field will be set. Jayson and I are taking a little bit of a different approach this week, yet again, so let’s see what that yields. (Editor’s note: Jim and Jayson will produce a single, final bracket prediction on … Read more

BRACKETOLOGY: How does moving Minnesota, St. Cloud State out of same region potentially affect 2023 NCAA tournament?

Editor’s note: This was written prior to Wednesday’s Hockey East first-round playoff games and thus could be altered if individual teams move in the RPI/PWR after those three contests. We can tell you one thing from last week’s Bracketology — people did not like Minnesota and St. Cloud State playing in the same region. We … Read more

BRACKETOLOGY: Mapping out 2023 NCAA men’s hockey tournament with regular season winding down, conference playoffs starting

Let me first begin by welcoming back USCHO’s long-time bracketologist Jayson Moy and giving him a cap tip/apology as last week his bracket and reasoning were missing because I didn’t check the spam folder in my email and thus never found what he had sent. This week, without incident, Jayson is back and ready to … Read more

Bracketology: NCAA hockey tournament picture coming into focus with Selection Sunday coming up in four days

Selection Sunday is just a few days away, which means the NCAA picture for most of the schools is getting quite clear. We’ve mentioned it elsewhere this week, but we can say with full certainty that the top 10 teams in the PairWise have secured their spots: Minnesota State, Michigan, Denver, North Dakota, Minnesota, Western … Read more

Bracketology: As college hockey playoffs kick into high gear, which teams are on the bubble, and which teams are locks for NCAA tournament bids?

We’re three weeks into Braceketology and we’re already seeing some conference tournament results that are having lasting impact. Last weekend, it was Ohio State losing its series in three games to Penn State. The Buckeyes have no games remaining to change their PairWise possibilities, and right now OSU sits right on the tournament bubble – … Read more

As we approach the home stretch of the college hockey season, we’re seeing some teams really solidify their NCAA tournament positions. We can say certainly that Minnesota State, Michigan and Minnesota all have punched their NCAA tickets and Denver, North Dakota, Western Michigan Notre Dame and St. Cloud State are all virtual locks (though my … Read more

Bracketology: The first set of predictions on which college hockey teams crack the field of 16 for the 2022 NCAA tournament

It’s finally that time of year where everyone is wondering what teams will make the NCAA men’s Division I ice hockey tournament and, more so, where their favorite teams will likely be playing. Thus, we’ll dust off the old column called Bracketology. Each week until selection Sunday, Jayson Moy and I try to give you … Read more

Final Bracketology: One last look figuring out which 16 teams will play for the 2021 national college hockey championship

We’ve seen all six conference tournaments completed and here are both Jayson’s and Jim’s fields, as well as how they place them into regionals. It’s amazing how controversial this year has been but how close Jayson and Jim are with their final fields. How they move teams around, though, is very much different. Jayson: Here … Read more

Bracketology: With Selection Sunday around the corner, taking one last stab at how the NCAA hockey tournament field will look

We’re inching ever so close to Selection Sunday so let’s take another look at Bracketology.

Right now, there are just nine college hockey games remaining after the NCHC (North Dakota) and Big Ten (Minnesota) crowned their champions. Hockey East has whittled their field to two teams, ECAC is down to three and WCHA and AHA still have their final four to be played.

Bracketology: What teams are in the NCAA tournament, what teams are not with men’s college hockey playoffs starting

We promised it last week, that in this week’s Bracketology, Jayson and I would try to find some sort of agreement on a field, just like being on the NCAA committee.

If we’re able to do that (spoiler: we’re not), we’ll attempt to put together what we think the regionals should look like.
