A great season of college hockey came to an end on Sunday with Hamilton upsetting previously unbeaten Hobart to take their very first national championship and first for a NESCAC school since 2015. This is the opportunity for the USCHO to look back and recognize the outstanding performances on the ice and as you can see below, I have come up with quite the extensive list that represents 32 players across 21 institutions and includes 10 players that were on the ice in last weekend’s Frozen Four in Utica, New York.
This year’s first team All-USCHO finds Hobart senior Damon Beaver (21GP – 20-1-0 Record – 0.99GAA – .951 SP – 7SO) in the crease with teammate, junior Conor Lally (14G – 25A – 39 Pts) and Geneseo junior Sean Melso (8G – 19A – 27 Pts) on the blueline and forwards that include Hobart senior Khalil Fontana (21G – 21A – 42 Pts), Adrian senior Ian Amsbaugh (12G – 37A – 49 Pts) and St. Mary’s sophomore Joona Juntanen (21G – 25A – 46 Pts). Three of the six first team members played in the Frozen Four and are recipients of multiple league and All-American recognitions this season.
The second team is led by a pair of goaltenders who led their teams to conference titles in St. John’s senior Jon Howe (26GP – 16-6-4 Record – 2.51GAA – .929SP – 0SO) and Endicott first-year, Peter Sterling (27GP – 1.63GAA – .933SP – 5SO) in goal. Defensemen include Norwich junior Cooper Bertrand (7G – 19A – 26 Pts) and sophomore David Clarke (8G – 24A – 32 Pts) from Adrian. Up front, Wisconsin – River Falls first-year Keenan Ingram (26G – 17A – 43 Pts), Hobart sophomore Arvega Hovsepyan (11G – 32A – 43 Pts) and senior Alex Dameski (21G – 16A – 37 Pts) from Geneseo provide some serious offensive firepower.
Third team honorees include two goaltenders, sophomore Jacob Osbourne from Bowdoin and first-year sensation, Christian Monaco from Wisconsin-Stout; a defense pairing of Stevenson senior Jack Karlsson and junior Cole Mickel from St. Mary’s and forwards, senior Tanner Daniels from Hobart, junior Luke Tchor from Hamilton and junior Logan Dombrowsky from St. Norbert.
Honorable mentions include a dynamic group including junior goaltender Selby Warren from Salve Regina who qualified for the NCAA tournament as an Independent this season as well as Assumption junior forward, Jonathan Surrette, who led the Greyhounds to the conference title in the NE-10 in D-II this season.
