Notre Dame’s Bo Brauer picked the perfect time to break his 14-game goal-scoring drought. At 17:13 in the second period against Penn State, Brauer scored to tie the game between the Fighting Irish and Nittany Lions and at 4:21 in the third, Brauer scored again – his fourth goal of the season and just the seventh of his career – to give Notre Dame its first lead of this 5-3 win.
Penn State led 2-0 after the first on goals by Alec Marsh at 7:31 and Chase Berger at 17:18, but the Irish scored two goals less than three minutes apart early in the second to tie the game 2-2. Berger’s second goal of the night at 9:01 in the second gave the Nittany Lions their last lead of the night. After Brauer’s two goals, Dawson Cook added Notre Dame’s fifth goal of the night at 11:58.
In his 19th win of the season, Cale Morris made 48 saves for the Irish as Penn State outshot Notre Dame 51-37. Payton Jones stopped 32 for the Nittany Lions. Notre Dame went 1-for-1 on the power play, Penn State 0-for-2.
