Picking the WCHA, Dec. 8-9

Everyone’s back in action this week for an all-WCHA weekend. Which teams will be able to separate themselves as the first half winds down?

Here’s what we think.

Minnesota State at Lake Superior State

Sean: It’s a fresh weekend for the Mavericks, but it’s never easy visiting the Lakers. Mavericks 3-2, 2-1 (OT)

Jack: The Mavs will be rested after being off last weekend. Things aren’t looking good for Lake State. Mavericks 4-1, 3-1

Ferris State at Michigan Tech

Sean: Bulldogs goalie Justin Kapelmaster is playing extremely well lately and I think he’ll continue that trend with a trip to the UP. Bulldogs 3-2, 1-0

Jack: Not sure the Bulldogs have the quality to beat the Huskies TWICE in Houghton, but I can see them getting a split. Bulldogs 2-1, Huskies 4-2

Alabama Hunstville at Bowling Green

Sean: Bowling Green is playing well at home lately and should be confident after four points against Bemidji State. Falcons 4-2, 3-0

Jack: The Chargers have been able to get points from each of their past three weekends. I think they keep that going this week. Falcons 3-1, Chargers 3-1

Northern Michigan at Bemidji State

Sean: The Beavers need to make up some ground after last weekend against BG. But the Wildcats recieved a wake-up call against Alabama last week. Wildcats 3-2, Beavers 4-0

Jack: I think the Beavs will be able to kick it in high gear and sweep NMU to get out of the danger zone of ninth place. Beavers 4-2, 2-1 (OT)

Alaska at Alaska Anchorage

Sean: The battle for Alaska is always a fun one, and this one should feature some extra 3-on-3. Nanooks 3-2 (OT), Seawolves 2-1 (OT)

Jack: I agree this is probabalyh a split. I’ll pick UAA to win Friday and the Nanooks to win tomorrow. Seawolves 4-2, Nanooks 5-3
