Weekend picks: March 5

Sunday, March 5

Cornell at Clarkson
Candace: This is going to be a nail-biter, but I just think Clarkson has to many ways to beat the Big Red. Clarkson 3-2
Nicole: Clarkson lost to Cornell 2-1 early in the season and beat them 5-4 in overtime in the final game of the regular season. It may be nuts, but I’m going to pick the Big Red. I’ve already said I think there’s little that can match a team playing for their life and they’ve got to be so energized by their win today. Cornell 3-2

Northeastern at Boston College
Candace: The Eagles better find a cure for their penalty-killing woes stat. I think they do. Boston College 2-1
Nicole: I’m tempted to pick the upset in Boston, as well, since BC went to double overtime to get this far and Northeastern showed the have what it takes when they rallied to beat Boston University. Still, I have to go with Burt and the ranked Eagles. They’ve got the experience and depth. Boston College 4-3

Minnesota Duluth at Wisconsin
Candace: Duluth has to be wasted after winning such a long, dramatic game. Still, Wisconsin was a few minutes from a possible similar predicament. I have to go with the Badgers. Wisconsin 3-1
Nicole: Whatever happens in the WCHA, I think we’re in for one heck of a game. Both times these teams met in the regular season, one of them was missing their star. We have not seen Lara Stalder face Ann-Renée Desbiens. Patty Kazmaier voting might already be turned in, but it’s going to be fun to watch. UMD was already facing the short turnaround with the late game and then it went two extra frames. I think some of that is negated by the adrenaline of the win, but I think I have to go with a fully healthy Wisconsin squad. Wisconsin 4-2
