Weekend wrap: Feb. 19

No. 1 Plattsburgh at Buffalo State
On Friday, Plattsburgh cruised to a 3-0 win with goals by Melissa Ames, Melissa Sheeran, and Courtney Moriarty. Goalie Camille Leonard became the all-time winningest goalie in NCAA Division III history with 70 in her career. On Saturday, Buffalo State clinched a home playoff game with a 3-3 tie. Christine Harris scored late in the third period to tie the game for Buffalo State.

No. 2 Adrian at No. 6 Lake Forest
On Friday, all four of Lake Forest’s goals were scored on the power play, but they weren’t quite enough to overcome Adrian, who won 5-4. Kristin Lewicki had two goals and an assist for Adrian in the win. On Saturday, Olivia Spellmire put Lake Forest up 1-0 early in the first, but that was all the scoring the Foresters would have. Lewicki tallied a natural hat trick in the 4-1 win.

No. 8 Hamilton at Connecticut College
Sam Walther made 31 saves for Hamilton and Katherine Chester made 23 for Connecticut College as the two teams dueled to a scoreless tie on Friday. On Saturday, Paige Michel and Lily Connolly each had a goal and an assist for Conn. College en route to a 5-1 win.

No. 10 Oswego at William Smith
Julieann White put Oswego on the board first but William Smith responded with goals from Stephanie Hampton, Lindsay Brown, and Gina Scibetta to take a 3-1 win in the first game. In game two, Eryn Stewart scored for Oswego and Kate Klimaszewski scored for William Smith in the first period and that was it as the teams tied 1-1.

Manhattanville at Massachusetts-Boston
Manhattanville took a one-goal lead twice before UMass Boston took the lead for good with less than a minute to go in the second period. Karly Kapur opened the scoring just more than a minute into the game, but Alli Bianchini tied it up on a power play for UMass Boston. Katherine Reilly put Manhattanville up again, but goals from Rachel Peacock and Edy Mortiz gave the Beacons the 3-2 win.

Potsdam at No. 4 Elmira
Nine different players scored for Elmira in their 3-1 and 6-1 wins over Potsdam. Amanda Peterson scored both of Potsdam’s goals.

Williams vs No. 7 Middlebury
Lizzie Sheline and Abby Marmer scored for Middlebury on Friday to give them a 2-0 win. On Saturday, Katherine Jackson scored twice en route to Middlebury’s 5-3 win.

No. 9 Gustavus Adolphus 3, Hamline 0
No. 4 Norwich 7, New England College 2
No. 4 Norwich 6, Plymouth State 1

Weekend wrap: Feb. 19

No. 1 Wisconsin at No. 4 Minnesota
This series showcased the goalies as both allowed just a single goal over the course of eight periods. On Saturday, Nicole Schammel put the Gophers on the board just seconds before the end of the second period. Wisconsin answered with a Sarah Nurse goal and that was all the scoring. Overtime was not enough to get a winner. The Badgers took the shootout thanks to a Jenny Ryan goal. On Sunday, the teams were scoreless through 65 minutes and it was Minnesota that took the shootout with a Lee Stecklein goal.

Penn State at No. 8 Robert Morris
On Friday, Penn State scored twice in 29 seconds near the end of the first to take a 2-1 lead. They added a goal from Meike Meilleur in the third to seal the eventual 3-2 win. On Saturday, Amanda Pantaleo and Aneta Ledlova scored for the Colonials in a 2-0 win.

No. 5 St. Lawrence at No. 7 Cornell
St. Lawrence jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Kalie Grant and Kennedy Marchment, but Cornell responded with two third-period goals to earn the tie. Freshmen Jamie Bourbonnais and Amy Curlew scored for the Big Red.

No. 3 Clarkson at No. 7 Cornell
Cornell carried a 3-1 lead into the second period thanks to three power-play goals, but Clarkson responded with three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead. Grace Graham tied the game with less than five to play in regulation, but Clarkson took the win with a Loren Gabel goal just 46 seconds into overtime. Cayley Mercer had two goals and an assist for the Golden Knights.

Merrimack at Vermont
Friday’s game featured six third-period goals as the Catamounts outlasted Merrimack 4-3. Paige Voight had a goal and an assist for Merrimack. Rachael Ade had a goal and two assists for Vermont. On Saturday, Merrimack earned its first-ever postseason berth in just their second D-I season with a 3-2 win. Freshman goalie Lea-Kristine Demers made a career-high 48 saves. Vermont hopped out to a 2-0 win but Merrimack scored three unanswered to earn the win. Madison Morey scored the game-winner for Merrimack in the third period.

No. 6 Boston College vs. Providence (home-and-home)
On Saturday, Providence broke a 15-game losing streak to the Eagles, winning for the first time since 2012. It was a fitting senior day for the Friars. Providence scored just 54 seconds into the game and jumped out to a 2-0 lead before BC responded. Kathleen McHugh scored her second of the game midway through the third to secure Providence the win. Brook Boquist, who had two assists on Saturday, scored Providence’s only goal — a short-hander. From there, it was all Boston College. Caitrin Lonergan had two goals to lead BC to a 3-1 win.

St. Cloud State at No. 2 Minnesota-Duluth
Katherine McGovern and Sydney Brodt each scored twice to lead the Bulldogs to a sweep of the Huskies. UMD won 2-1 and 4-1.
