Sacred Heart Drops Fairfield

Fairfield (7-14-1, 6-10-1) dropped a 4-1 decision tonight to the Pioneers of Sacred Heart at the Milford Ice Pavilion. Sophomore Jim Lubinski scored the lone goal for the Stags, who out shot the Pioneers 42-26.

With the exception of a few bursts, the Stags controlled the better part of the first period and out shot the Pioneers 18-7. At 9:36 Sacred Heart’s Mike Reagan opened the scoring when he deflected a Nick Nutcher shot from the point past Fairfield’s Schnappinger (22 ssaves).

At 16:12 Fairfield’s Lubinski, would even the score with a quick wrist shot through a Sacred Heart defender which found its way past Sacred Heart’s Eddy Ferhi (41 saves).

Sacred Heart owned the second stanza, out shooting Fairfield 14-11 and out scoring them 2-0. Michael Forsland recorded the game winner at 9:48 when his shot deflected off the back of a team-mate past Schappinger and into the cage.

Eighteen seconds later Lloyd Marks would net the Pioneers third tally when Chris Mokos forced an offensive zone turnover and fed the wing on the weak side who slid the puck underneath the sliding goaltender.

Fairfield would muster a solid third period effort, generating some quality scoring chances but could not convert them into goals. At 9:49 Mike Reagan would record his second goal of the night when he collected a loose puck off a Fairfield turnover at the offensive blue line, walked in alone, faked a shot, moved to the outside and beat the diving Schnappinger under the arm.

The Stags were unsuccessful in their only power play opportunity, while Sacred Heart did not have chance with a man advantage.
