The New England Women’s Hockey Alliance received official notice from the NCAA on Aug. 1, 2019 that it has officially been approved for active NCAA Division I membership, effective for the 2019-20 academic year.
Holy Cross announced Tuesday that it would join Hockey East for the 2018-19 season, the culmination of a process that started a year ago. Next season, the Crusaders will play a mixed schedule that will include teams from Hockey East, the ECAC, and the CHA. There is some speculation as well about whether the men’s team will follow.

The decision by the New England Hockey Conference was one factor that led Holy Cross to decide to upgrade it’s women’s program and seek membership in either the CHA, ECAC, or Hockey East. That decision has left three other schools, Franklin Pierce, St. Anselm, and St. Michael’s, scrambling for scheduling options for next season.
