Dartmouth Pulls Away From Princeton For ECAC Sweep

Dartmouth (4-0-3, 3-0-3 ECAC) earned its first ECAC sweep of the season, defeating Princeton (2-6-0, 2-4-0), 6-3 Saturday night. The Big Green got goals from five players, including two from junior Nathan Szymanski.

The first goal of the game was a rifle shot by Dartmouth sophomore Mike Ouellette at 16:06 on the clock. Szymanski and Lee Stempniak assisted on the play. It was Ouellette’s first of the year.

Princeton tied things up at 3:27 after a flurry of shots in front of junior goalie Dan Yacey allowed Grant Goeckner-Zoeller to get the equalizer. Brett Westgarth and Max Cousins assisted.

Then, at 2:28, the Tigers pulled ahead off an unassisted goal by Patrick Neundorfer.

The period ended with Dartmouth down for only the second time this season. Dartmouth had 13 shots on goal to Princeton’s 15.

Only 5:26 into the second period Dartmouth tied it up when senior Mike Turner faked a shot and passed to Szymanski, who got the puck to Stempniak for the junior’s fifth goal on the season.

Sophomore Jarrett Sampson put the Big Green ahead four minutes later off a pass from Eric Przepiorka.

Dartmouth continued its assault with another goal at 6:14. Szymanski took a pass from Ouellette and freshman Mike Hartwick for the fourth Big Green goal of the game.

The Big Green’s fifth goal, and third unanswered, came at 1:34 when Szymanski took a shot on net off a Brian Van Abel pass.

Dartmouth went into the locker room with 22 shots on goal to Princeton’s two for the period.

In the third period both teams had a goal for the final score. Princeton got on the board first when Steve Slaton chipped a shot in from Seamus Young. Dartmouth answered 11:25 into the stanza off a Hugh Jessiman rocket which Przepiorka tipped in. Sean Offers also recorded an assist.

Yacey finished the game with 22 saves and Dartmouth recorded 44 shots, the first time this year they’ve had over 40.
