Bowdoin Cruises Past Amherst

Keyed by 49 shots on goal, Bowdoin overwhelmed Amherst en route to a 4-0 shutout win Friday.

Junior goalie Heidi Alexander made 45 saves for the Jeffs, but her performance still could not hold off the offensive firepower of the Polar Bears. Amherst never seemed to get its offense jumpstarted, as it was outshot by a whopping, 49-9 margin.

After a scoreless first period, Bowdoin sophomore forward Jess Burke scored the first of her two goals, and got things rolling for the Polar Bears early in the second, when she fired a wrist shot past Alexander off a cross ice feed from Bowdoin senior forward Carrie Simonds.

Polar Bear first-year defender Kristi Anderson scored the second goal of the game after Bowdoin first-year forward Marissa O’Neil flipped a gorgeous pass to her off a rebound shot from the slot. Burke scored her second goal 14:20 into the second period off another nice pass from Polar Bear first-year defender Cathie Quinlan.

O’Neil rounded out the scoring for Bowdoin, burying a shot into the top corner of the net off a behind the net feed from Polar Bear junior forward Beth Muir.

Bowdoin junior goalie Francesa Klucevek-Whalen recorded nine saves for an impressive 3-0 start.
