Williams Shuts Out Amherst

After falling to the top-ranked team in the nation, Middlebury, 9-0 on Friday night, Amherst faced second-ranked Williams on Saturday and came away with a 6-0 loss, dropping to 0-2 on the season.

Williams’ Molly Wasserman notched her second hat trick in as many games, while teammate Julia Karoly added a goal and two assists for the undefeated Ephs (2-0).

Wasserman set the tone with the game’s first goal 8:43 into the first period, assisted by Karoly. Karoly and Williams’ Annie Snodgrass then fed Wasserman for her second goal midway through the second. The Ephs scored twice more shortly thereafter for a commanding 4-0 lead — the first by sophomore Tori Scott on a power play, followed by an Amanda Weber tally just eleven seconds later.

In the third, Wasserman capped her trifecta off an assist by Snodgrass. Karoly then closed out the scoring with a power-play goal, assisted by first-year defender Wendy Stone.

Williams senior goaltender Anna MacIntosh earned the win with 17 saves. Junior goaltender Heidi Alexander had another busy day for Amherst with 47 saves, after tallying 32 Friday night at Middlebury.
