Freshman Carmen Posteraro scored at 16:41 of the third period and gave Bentley a 2-2 overtime tie with Army. The tie was the first for Bentley in 48 games, dating back to January 11, 2002 and moved the Falcons to 1-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in Atlantic Hockey games.
The Falcons jumped out to the early 1-0 lead at 9:43 of the first period on rookie forward John Hooks’ first collegiate goal. Hooks pounced on a rebound in front of the net and poked it by Army goaltender Brad Roberts.
Army evened the score 43 seconds into the second period when junior Chris Casey netted his second goal of the season. Casey gave Army the lead two minutes and 51 seconds later when he beat Bentley goalie Simon St. Pierre.
Roberts and the Army defense stifled Bentley’s offense early in the third frame, but failed to convert on its second five-on-three advantage of the game, leaving the door open for Posteraro’s game-tying score with less than four minutes left. Posteraro’s goal was the first for Bentley in the third period this season.
Both goaltenders were sharp, with St. Pierre making 37 saves and Roberts 29. Army is 2-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in league games. Bentley plays on the road at Union College tomorrow afternoon in the program’s first tilt with an ECAC member school. Army will travel to Mercyhurst and Canisius next weekend.
