Wood and Goepfert Lead Friars Over Saints

Junior defenseman Stephen Wood scored two goals and freshman goaltender Bobby Goepfert made 45 saves to lead Providence to a 4-2 victory over St. Lawrence Saturday night.

Providence snapped a four-game winless streak with the victory and is now 9-5-1 on the season. The Saints lost their sixth in a row and are now 2-10-1.

Providence grabbed the early lead as senior Jon DiSalvatore scored his seventh of the season from all alone in front at 4:36 and grad student Peter Fregoe made it 2-0 when he scored his 12th of the year on a Friar power play at 9:21.

The Saints, who had been held to a single goal in each of the last four games, came storming right back as freshman T.J. Trevelyan scored his second of the year from a tough angle at 9:43 and sophomore Josh Anderson tied the game with a power-play redirection for his fourth of the season at 14:39 to make it a 2-2 game after one period.

The Friars took a 3-2 lead at 15:25 of the second period as Wood crashed the net and tipped his first goal of the year into the net on a Providence power play.

The Saints outshot Providence 20-8 in the third period, but Goepfert stopped everything that came his way and Wood scored his second of the night at 8:38 to make it a 4-2 game.

Goepfert made 20 of his 45 saves in the third period while Saint junior Sean Knaub, making his first career start, finished with 22 saves.
