Fairfield forward Dan Cotter scored with 7:14 remaining in regulation to help the Stags force a 1-1 tie with Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon at the Northford Ice Pavilion.
After battling through two scoreless periods, QU finally broke through for a 1-0 lead at 8:03 of the final frame. Ryan Olson fed the puck out of the left-wing corner to Matt Craig, who was denied on a shot from the left circle. However, Chris White was waiting all alone on the doorstep and knocked in the loose puck for the first goal of the contest.
A few minutes later, Cotter knuckled a shot through the legs of Justin Eddy. It was the only blemish against Eddy, who stopped 23 of 24 shots.
In his last two outings, Eddy has held the opposition to just one goal.
With the assist on White’s goal, Olson moved into a tie for the team lead in points with Brian Herbert. Both players now have 36 points.
Quinnipiac remains in second place in the MAAC with the tie, even with Sacred Heart at 31 points.
Next up for QU (15-12-5, 13-6-5) is a contest with Bentley on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Northford Ice Pavilion.
