Ninth-ranked Mercyhurst snapped a two-game losing streak Friday with a 7-0 verdict over visting Wayne State. The Lakers improved to 19-7-1 overall, 13-2-1 in the Great Lakes Women’s Hockey Association, and 11-0-0 lifetime against the Warriors. Wayne State dropped to 3-20-2.

Junior Mariann MacDougall scored the only goal Mercyhurst would need when she beat Wayne State emergency netminder Kelly Zamora at 5:51 of the first period on a power play. The goal was her second of the season.

Mercyhurst added a power-play goal by freshman forward Sara McDonald, her 11th, at 17:55 of the first for a 2-0 lead after a period.

Mercyhurst extended its lead to 5-0 after two periods as sophomore forward Britney Millar scored shorthanded at 8:41, followed by freshman forward Lindsay Dellow at 10:27, and freshman forward Chrissy Yule, a power play, at 15:07. C.J. Ireland (12:38) and McDonald (19:42) completed the scoring in the third.

Mercyhurst outshot Wayne State 47-8, converted 3 of 8 power-play chances, and tallied shorthanded.

Freshman Desi Clark picked up the win in goal for Mercyhurst. Wayne State’s Zamora, a forward, was in goal after being pressed into service following injuries to both regular Warrior goaltenders.

The teams will conclude the weekend series Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
