St. Anselm Makes Chances Count

Despite being outshot 35-17 by host Amherst, St. Anselm claimed a 5-1 decision Saturday afternoon at Orr Rink.

Freshman forward Keegan Rosenberger paced the visitors with a pair of goals while junior Jeff Kuhn chipped in with a goal and an assist. Hawk senior goaltender Andrew Zoppo was stellar in net, finishing with 34 saves.

Rosenberger tallied his first goal 7:17 into the game blasting a one-timer from the slot into the back of the net. He scored the second goal moments later on the power play, taking a cross-ice feed from first-year forward Bostjan Kolarik and slapping it past junior netminder Justin Jagher (12 saves), giving the visitors a 2-0 lead to end the opening stanza.

The Jeffs turned up the heat in the second period, as they outshot the visitors 14-4. Freshman forward Jonathan Hill took a gorgeous feed from sophomore Mike Kreger and stuffed the puck into the net, cutting the St. Anselm lead to 2-1.

Amherst could not even the score, however, as the visitors erupted with a trio of third-period goals. Kuhn capped off the scoring at 5-1, controlling a rebound off a breakaway save by Jagher and backhanding it into the top left corner of the net.

With the loss, the Jeffs drop to 4-9-5 overall while the Hawks snap a seven-game winless streak and improve to 6-7-4.
