Ryan Morton notched his second two-goal game of the season and goaltender Justin Eddy stopped 18 shots to earn his first career shutout as Quinnipiac cruised to a 7-0 win over Bentley on Saturday night at the Northford Ice Pavilion.
Six different players tallied a goal for QU, which swept the weekend series from the Falcons. Quinnipiac moved back over .500 for the first time in nearly a month at 12-11-1, and has now won five of six games to improve to 10-5-1 in the MAAC.
Morton opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 4:38 of the first period off assists from Todd Bennett and Chris White. Less than two minutes later, Matt Craig recorded his fourth goal of the year from White and Chris Maniatis.
The Quinnipiac offense was running on all cylinders at that point. Morton’s second of the game and 12th of the year at 13:49 of the first also came on a power play. Craig and White were credited with assists.
Before the close of the frame, QU added one more tally. Dan Ennis’ shot from the point found the back of the net for a 4-0 lead. White and Ben Blais added assists on the marker.
Quinnipiac added two more power-play goals in a penalty-riddled second period. Wade Winkler’s shot through a screen beat Kevin Williams at 7:20 on assists from Neil Breen and Ryan Olson.
Then, during a 5-on-3 situation later in the period, Olson’s blast from the left circle went right through Williams’ legs. Matt Erhart and Breen were given assists on the goal.
Maniatis closed the scoring at 2:50 of the third period, finishing a two-on-one break with a wrist shot that sailed over the glove of the second Bentley goalie, Bill Bridge.
White finished the night with a career-high four points, all assists. Craig had a goal and two assists, while Olson, Breen, Maniatis and Winkler all chipped in two points.
Eddy was a spectator for most of the night, with Quinnipiac dominating the play in the Bentley end. However, Eddy was up to the challenge when tested. After allowing just one goal in a game seven times last year, Eddy made all 18 saves to earn the shutout.
