St. Cloud State scored three goals in a game for the first time in over a month, but fell short defensively in a 5-3 loss to Ohio State on Saturday afternoon at the National Hockey Center.
The Huskies’ loss, their school-record seventh in a row, drops their record to 4-16-1 overall (3-10-1 WCHA). Ohio State improves to 12-7-3 overall (7-6-3 WCHA).
OSU took a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game, but SCSU knotted the game at one just two and a half minutes later on Andrea Keller’s seventh goal of the year.
But the Buckeyes would respond with goals by Jeni Creary and Jennifer Desson for a 3-1 lead at the first intermission.
First-year defender Tina Ciraulo trimmed the lead to 3-2 with a power-play goal just 20 seconds into the second period.
Ohio State then would take a 5-2 lead with goals again by Desson and Creary. The Huskies added a late goal from Jennifer Swanson at the 19:31 mark of the third period.
The Huskies were outshot 34-22, and Laura Gieselman stopped 29 shots in the nets. SCSU was 1-of-3 on the power play and OSU converted its only power-play opportunity. St. Cloud State committed a season-low one penalty for two minutes.
