St. Norbert won its second-straight season opener, downing Marian 7-2.
Marian grabbed a quick 1-0 lead after one period on a goal by Andy Allen, but the Green Knights responded with four second-period markers to break the game open. Chris Bodnar, Faron Duthie, Marc Deitsch and Andre Rioux all scored in the second period, with Bodnar’s a power-play goal.
St. Norbert scored the first three goals of the third period, all on power plays. Maris Ziedins, Kyle Peterson and Terry Wilson all scored for St. Norbert. Ziedins extended his school-record scoring streak to 17 games on a 4-on-3 man advantage.
Allen notched Marian’s second goal with less than six minutes remaining.
St. Norbert was 4-for-9 on the power play, while holding Marian to an 0-for-10 night with the extra man.
Ryan Gill turned away 10 of 12 shots he faced for St. Norbert, while Marian goaltender Terry Dunbar made 32 saves.
St. Norbert (1-0-0) hosts NCHA foe Wis.-Superior on Friday, Nov. 2, before starting its NCHA season against St. Scholastica the following night. Marian (0-3-0) hosts Augsburg in a pair of non-conference games Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3 and 4.
