Salem State College used three third-period goals, including two in a span of 41 seconds, to rally from a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 victory from Wentworth in a nonleague contest at Matthews Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Wentworth took a 1-0 advantage on a goal from sophomore forward Jamie Weiss at 11:00 of the second. Leopard senior forward Jeramie Vaine gave the hosts a 2-0 victory, as he registered an unassisted tally with 40 seconds remaining in the second stanza.
Salem State cut the lead to 2-1 at the 11:11 mark of the final period when senior forward David Cooper scored from sophomore forward Ryan Penney . The Vikings tied the game at two when Penney scored from Cooper and senior defenseman Rob Miller at 16:44. Senior forward Ryan Townsend scored the game-winner, an unassisted tally, with 2:35 remaining in regulation.
Salem State sophomore goalie Kaleb Christenson made 22 saves for the Vikings, while Wentworth freshman Raj Bhangoo made 32 for the Leopards. Salem State outshot Wentworth, 35-24, including 16-8 in the final period.
Salem State begins the season at 1-0, while Wentworth drops to 3-1.
